LEAD THE WAY!

President’s Message

Today, we will be learning about four projects that our club could choose as our 60th Anniversary Service Project.

As you know, this January we will be celebrating 60 years as a club.  Our club has been serving our community and our world for a very long time, and, we hope, for many years to come.

In order to celebrate this wonderful event, we will be starting a service project that will make our community a better place for many years.  The Board has allocated $15,000 for this project.  Money for this project will also be raised through our annual auction.

The intent of the 60th Anniversary project is to reinforce our club’s focus of service to community, youth, and peace and world understanding.  Our purpose is to commemorate our club’s anniversary, promote both community awareness of Rotary and pride amoung all Rotarians, and leave a lasting, visual reminder of Rotary’s positive impact in our community.

Our four choices are:

  1. Purchase and install playground equipment at Willamalane’s Recreation Center.
  2. Purchase and install a permanent roof cover for Island Park stage.
  3. Purchase and install playground equipment at the proposed Relief Nursery in Springfield.
  4. Create and install directional public art in the two-lane roundabout at Hayden Bridge Road and Pioneer Parkway.

We will learn details of each of these projects today, and then vote for our top priority.

This is certainly an exciting time in the history of our club.

Yours in Rotary,

Liz Degner

News about our Club and Beyond

Important Club Assembly This Week.

As you know, our club will be celebrating our 60th Anniversary on January 17, 2007.  We want to honor this event by completing a community service project that all of us can work on and proudly place our name.

The Service Projects Committee, lead by Cynthia and Nancy G., have collected several ideas for projects.  This week, we will vote on the project.

We want to choose a project in which every member is excited about helping, and a project that will improve our wonderful Springfield community.

Duck Race Celebration Lunch

Next week, we will be meeting with all the other area Rotary Clubs to celebrate another successful Duck Race.  The meeting will be at noon, Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Royal Caribbean.  (We will not meet on Wednesday, Nov. 8.)
Purchase your lunch ticket from Doris today.  The cost for lunch is $12.00.

From District 5110 Newsletter…

Past District Governor Walt Schloer has once again offered a Paul Harris fellowship to the District 5110 Rotary Club with the greatest net gain in membership for the 2006-07 Rotary Year. Measured from July 1, 2006 'til July 1, 2007 the District 5110 Club with the biggest net gain will be allowed to name an individual or individuals to receive 1000 Rotary Foundation recognition points. It is Walt's way of emphasizing the importance of membership management to Rotary and it's also Walt's way of demonstrating his personal commitment to the world's greatest civic and philanthropic organization. PDG Walt first made this offer in 2005- 06 and the award was taken by the Rotary Club of Florence.

The Miracle of Rotary

From District 5110 Newsletter…

November is Rotary Foundation Month
Hopefully, your club has special plans for November -- not only is it the month in which Thanksgiving is celebrated -- but it is also Rotary Foundation Month.

To celebrate the many accomplishments of The Rotary Foundation and to highlight its programs, many clubs have scheduled special programs and speakers.

144 District 5110 Rotarians attended the recent TRF Seminar representing 55 clubs (81%). At the Foundation seminar DG Hal agreed to have his hair dyed yellow and green for the conference if the district average is over $200.00 per member. PDG Judi has also agreed to have her hair dyed black and orange.

Mark your calendars!

Our first meeting at Roaring Rapids is Wednesday, Dec. 6.  Our last day at Elmer’s will be November 29th.

You will order and pay for your lunch at the front of the restaurant.  You will then pick up your beverage and go to the main room.  If you order a sandwich, soup or pizza, your order will be served to you in the main room.  If you order a salad bar, you will be given a plate.

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say and do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?

  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
