News about our Club and Beyond

Dear Springfield Rotarians -

The Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for businesspeople and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers and who are not Rotarians or closely related to Rotarians.  The Foundation provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits in paired districts in different countries. District 5110 has been very active in GSE, exchanging with other Rotary districts in countries such as Sri Lanka, Bolivia, Japan, Taiwan, Dominican Republic, Turkey, East African countries and others.  Most recently we exchanged with district 4790 in northern Argentina.

For 2009, the district GSE committee is soliciting team applications for exchanges with District 3020 in eastern India, and district 3870 in the Philippines.  The India GSE is scheduled for Jan-Feb 2009, Philippines for April-May 2009.

This is a special opportunity for business owners and professional managers to invest in outstanding employees, giving them a true international perspective.  We are requesting that Rotarians across the district consider GSE and help find young professionals who might be interested and can apply.

If you have any questions about GSE or a GSE team application form, please call or e-mail me at the address below.

Don Arkell

Batter Up!

It’s that time of the year again!  July 23 is the Springfield Rotary Baseball Night with the Eugene Emeralds vs. the Tri-City Dust Devils, 6:00 p.m. at Civic Stadium.  The cost is $17 per person, and there will be a special rate for kids.  More details, and a sign up sheet, will be available as the date approaches.  For now, questions can be directed to John Halgren.

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say and do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?

  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
