ROTARY SHARES!

President’s Message

April 30, 2008

More doing, less thinking

We’ve all seen that IBM commercial in which there is a dark, quiet room of executives lying on the floor “ideating”, or, simply put, thinking about things.  IBM’s punch line here - quit thinking about it so much and get out and do it.

The world needs more doers, and Rotary is part of that answer.

Our Club was in the “doing” mode again this weekend on our Signature Project Trail.  Another great bunch of Club members put in a good morning’s work on a trail that is starting to really take shape.  We have one more weekend coming up - from 9-Noon this Saturday - to do our part in our local community.  Please sign up for this fun and important work.  I think we will have another beautiful day to enjoy while we get it done.

Each work day on this project has found non-Rotarians and family members on board.  I’ve already gotten two calls from folks I don’t know asking if they can join us in our efforts this weekend.  They may be from the Oregon Track Club.  Making a difference is infectious, and having our name on this and other improvements in our community will help show people the way to making their own contributions.

See you on the trail this Saturday!  Let’s make it the biggest turnout of the project. Dan

News about our Club and Beyond

Ever been to a District Conference before?

Did you go to Bend last year? Florence the year before?  Eugene in 2005?  Then you know how good the experience can be.  Even the business meeting can get exciting.

If you have been before, come back, but this time bring someone with you who has never had the experience of Rotarians from all over who come together to share ideas, fun, fellowship, and the variety of opportunities to learn more in depth about what Rotary—and our district--is all about.

Have you registered yet for the 2008 District Conference?

Over 200 people have!  Don’t delay…..you don’t want to miss out on what may well be the best district conference ever.  Check out the schedule, the incredible array of speakers who will engage in interactive forums, informative workshops, our House of Sharing and our House of Friendship, and be prepared for some big surprises. Remember kids are welcome. Child care, fun activities, even ice skating and horseback riding will be available. Go to http://district5110.org/main.php/District/Conference for more information.

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say and do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?

  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
