ROTARY SHARES!

April 23, 2008

Trail Time again!

Once again this weekend - Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and Noon - Springfield Rotarians will be hitting the trail doing their part on our 2007/2008 Signature Project – Springfield’s East Woodlands Trail.

It was great to see so many from our Club making a difference a couple of weekends ago.  The weather was warm, the jokes were flying, and so were the blackberries.  Our short time on the trail has made a clear difference, as will our dollars in support of making the Springfield side of this important link between our two cities the best it can be.

Please take a moment today to sign up for this fun and fundamental fellowship opportunity.  It will be a very good thing to see the Rotary name at this key entryway into Springfield.

One other fellowship note...........
I wish to thank Beth De George and the Club leadership for a very enjoyable Fireside last week.  I believe that everyone there learned a bit more about Rotary, our Club, and our hopes for the future.  Four new members of our Club were able to ask questions and hear from past presidents and current leadership about their Rotary experiences.  It was a very rewarding evening for all involved.  Thanks again, Beth, for taking on this important task.

See you on the Trail!
Dan

News about our Club and Beyond

Ever been to a District Conference before?

Did you go to Bend last year? Florence the year before?  Eugene in 2005?  Then you know how good the experience can be.  Even the business meeting can get exciting.

If you have been before, come back, but this time bring someone with you who has never had the experience of Rotarians from all over who come together to share ideas, fun, fellowship, and the variety of opportunities to learn more in depth about what Rotary—and our district--is all about.

Have you registered yet for the 2008 District Conference?

Over 200 people have!  Don’t delay…..you don’t want to miss out on what may well be the best district conference ever.  Check out the schedule, the incredible array of speakers who will engage in interactive forums, informative workshops, our House of Sharing and our House of Friendship, and be prepared for some big surprises. Remember kids are welcome. Child care, fun activities, even ice skating and horseback riding will be available. Go to http://district5110.org/main.php/District/Conference for more information.

D5110 GSE team prepares for an excellent adventure in Argentina

Our outbound GSE team will arrive in Argentina’s district 4790 (provinces of Chaco, Corrientes, Formosa) on Monday, April 28, to begin their excellent adventure.  The team anticipates 30 days of intense vocational and cultural interaction with D4790 Rotarians and hopes D5110 Rotarians will follow their progress via weekly blog posts and photos (www.district5110gse2008.org).  D5110 Rotarians and sponsoring clubs can expect an action-filled presentation at the district conference in Eugene upon the team’s return.

The inbound team from Argentina will arrive Friday, May 2nd, to begin its official visit.  More about their itinerary next week.

In the meantime, the call is out for applicants for team leaders and members for the 2009 exchanges with India and the Philippines.  Applications for team leaders are due to Chris Duncan by May 31 and
