Cha - Cha - Cha Changes
District Assembly
Present and future Springfield Rotary Club leaders traveled to Cottage Grove over the weekend for Rotary learning and training. I wish to thank each Club member who made the trip and the commitment of time to their personal growth and the growth of our Club.
Club members who made the trip include: Mike Fischnaller, Rod Lathrop, Mark Johnson, Don Armstrong, Bill Grile, Liz Degner, Micheal Screen, and Tom Draggoo - a great representation from our Club, and a number of members who represent the future of Springfield Rotary. It is the way Rotary works on the local and international level with a changing cast of volunteers who step up and make a difference when it is their turn to do so. Please be open to help these and other Club Board members and leaders make our Club the best it can be.
Time to Move?
Since I joined Springfield Rotary in 1995, the Club has moved its meeting place three times - the Elks to the DoubleTree to Elmer’s and now to Roaring Rapids Pizza. And, I’m sure in the long history of our Club, we have met in several other locations. In fact, our initial meeting was at the Eugene Hotel all those many years ago!
Today, Donna McNeil will distribute a questionnaire about your preferences in advance of a possible move once again. The Holiday Inn full-service hotel in Gateway will be opening soon, and we are talking to their executive team about a possible contract for our Club at that location. First, however, we want to ask you about how you feel. What is important to you in a meeting place, lunch price ...and more.

News about our Club and Beyond |
Leonard Farr 1922 – 2008
We are saddened to report that Len Farr, distinguished Rotarian and long time member of the Rotary Club of Coos Bay-North Bend, died Tuesday after being struck by a car while crossing from a park where he often walked to a nearby parking lot in Coos Bay. He was 86 years old.
Len was a Rotary Foundation Alumnus many times over, serving as a Rotary Volunteer in Mexico, Jamaica, Venezuela, Peru, India, Guatemala, Honduras and Thailand, and in Nigeria and Portugal on multiple occasions.
This appeared in the Coos Bay newspaper “The World” on April 2nd:
Leonard Farr was a World War II veteran who helped liberate the Buchenwald concentration camp in Weimar, Germany. He returned to the Bay Area after the war to take over running the hardware business started by his father in 1916. Farr’s son, Jay Farr, is the current president of Farr’s True Value.
Leonard Farr and his wife, Joyce, lived in Coos Bay, where they raised their family and participated in many civic and service activities. Members of Coos Bay-North Bend Rotary, the couple were active in projects providing housing to families in Central America, and in providing food to needy families on the South Coast.
At Len and Joyce’s personal request, no public services will be held. |

Please take a minute, fill out the survey and have a hand in the future
I need to say that this survey in no way reflects on the great service and hospitality afforded our Club since moving to Roaring Rapids Pizza. We have been given every consideration in making our home at Roaring Rapids these past two years. I wish to thank Garry Weber and the staff for doing everything they can to make our meetings productive and our guests feel welcome on the River in Glenwood. It has been a pleasure to work with you all at RR.
