President’s Message
March 5, 2008
Rotary Shares.............with our Club and the World
I hope you've gotten a look and a listen at some new Rotary ads that are running on local TV and radio. Some are just identifiers that keep the name - ROTARY - in front of the audience; some are most substantive and talk about the good Rotary is doing in the world. In any event, it is good to see that Rotary has a spotlight in our local market, and before our future members.
I truly believe that this aspect of Rotary - working in the world while keeping a local connection - makes Rotary a unique opportunity for those who wish to serve. It allows one to be involved in something both close to home and continents away. It offers a host of programs that take time, talent or treasury - or all three - to make happen. It engages the newest member and keeps vibrant the most seasoned Rotarian in our Clubs.
We don't have to look farther than Springfield Rotary Club to see this in action. We enjoyed a great program from our own Bill Stenstrom last week, and we hope some of our newest members step forward to help re-engage our international outreach. We are also calling on "old hands" at the Wine Auction to help make this year's edition the best ever for our new members and their guests.
The new and the veteran working together. Working here in Springfield and working with other Rotarians in lands far away.
Support the Auction and support your Club so we can support Springfield and the World.
That is how Rotary Shares.

World Community Service Update
The last quarterly meeting of the World Community Service Committee for the 2007-08 Rotary year was held Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the Phoenix School in Roseburg with just under sixty Rotarians in attendance.
Of the $277,127 in District Designated Funds available at the beginning of the year, approximately $47,556 remained available for distribution for potential projects all over the world. All but about $2000 DDF was allocated to WCS projects that included—among others--clean water in Zambia, a rain water harvesting project in India, an endoscopic neurosurgical program in Romania, and fifty scholarships for low income students in La Paz, Mexico.
There was discussion about joining in a partnership with World Vision and a vote about changing the ratio of district matching grant dollars to club dollars as our DDF allocation will be less in the 2008-09 Rotary year.
All committee members shared lunch, fellowship, and the same universal goals: Goodwill ~ Understanding ~ Friendship ~ and Peace.

The Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say and do:
-
Is it the TRUTH?
-
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
-
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
-
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
