President’s Message
February 27, 2008
Restoring World Community Service at Springfield Rotary
Today we will hear from our own Bill Stenstrom. We will hear about his trip to Africa, his encounters with the challenges facing people and Rotary Clubs in that part of the world. And, we will hear about specific projects and programs that are engaging Rotary Clubs from around the world as they reach out to this continent.
We will also learn that it is time for our Club to restart our World Community Service outreach.
Our involvement in the Uganda Project has effectively ended recently. We really do not have a WCS project at Springfield Rotary at this time. However, we do have Rotarians who want to engage on this level, and that is what really matters.
Personally, I believe we recognize that there is work to be done in our community (such as our Signature Project and all the other programs we support locally), and I believe we equally feel we can reach out to the wider world with our efforts. The International Connection is an exciting part of our efforts as long as we have Club members actively engaged, tracking our efforts, and reporting back to the Club on a regular basis.

Call for Nominations to the District Nominating Committee
Following changes enacted at the last district conference in Bend, the DG nominating committee is currently composed of the three most immediate past district governors and four qualified representatives from defined areas based on membership numbers. District Resolutions Chair PDG Walt Schloer has sent the following announcement:
In accordance with District Policy Manual Article VI.2.b, nominations for eligible candidates, as defined in Article VI.2.c, to serve on the District Nominating Committee in 2008-2009 are due to the District Governor by no later than 29 April 2008. The club nominating the candidate shall certify such nomination in writing. Such certification must include the signatures of the club president and club secretary. Nominees will be placed on a ballot to be voted on by the electors from their respective areas, as defined in Article VI.2.a, at the District Conference in May 2008.
Elections Chair DGN Claire Little will provide a list of qualified candidates to the clubs with instructions regarding the nominating process in the near future. All nominees will be asked to submit a brief bio if they have not already done so. (from D5110 newsletter) |
