ROTARY SHARES!

President’s Message

February 13, 2008

AUCTION TIME!

There will be an important Springfield Rotary Wine Auction meeting after our regular club meeting today.  Please plan to spend whatever time necessary with Bruce and the committee if you have a role to play in this year’s event.

And, you do have a role - a big one.

Our program today is about our Signature Project - a project in our area that will bear the name of our Club, and through that, the efforts of each Springfield Rotary Club member.  We will be investing in-kind skills and labor hours from our club, but we will also be putting $15,000 of our Club budget behind this important trail project in Springfield.

The dollars we have to invest in our Signature Project and community, and in many other efforts throughout the year, are the result of your efforts at the Auction last year.  Those funds from last May are funding our projects today - just as your investment and participation in this year’s event will fund the very good projects we settle on next year.

So, it is essential we give our best effort to make this year’s Auction the best ever.

If you need more motivation, here are 10 good reasons to participate that have nothing to do with fundraising for our Club:

1.  Fellowship.  It is a fun evening with friends and Club members we see too often only for lunch.
2.  New Members.  You really need to see our Club in action.  And, it is a great, casual way to meet some of the veteran Club members.
3.  Friends, staff, family members.  Finally, you can prove there really
IS a Springfield Club meeting that

Rotary Giving Tree

Below is fun picture of all or our presents for all three families to give folks an idea of the amount of generosity of Rotary.  This year we served one family from Relief Nursery and two families from Springfield School District for a total of 4 parents and three children.  We provided over 70 gifts to these three families.

Rotary Giving Tree

Below is a letter of thanks from our sponsored family who was so grateful for all Rotary did for them this holiday season.  The Relief Nursery would not be able to bring holiday joy to so many families without your help.

The Miracle of Rotary

(Cont’d from page 1)
you rush off to each Wednesday at Noon.
4.  More than one Door Prize.  You know how it is that just a handful of Rotarians seem to win the door prize each week?  At the Auction, you will have many more chances to win a wine package or more.  And, if you can’t win by drawing, just bid really high on any package and that will work, too.  Everyone is a winner!
5.  Rotarians at night.  Look different.  They are more relaxed, laugh more easily, dress better and are tickled to be out on the town together.
6.  Round tables of eight – ‘nough said.
7.  No Presidential Direction.  The “meeting” is pretty much a bell, a bunch of bids, good food & wine, and another bell.  You’ll like it!
8.  No stinking badges!
9.  A certain goofiness is encouraged.  What goes on at the Wine Auction, stays at the Wine Auction.
10.  A personal bucket of good karma filled to the brim for each attendee.

See you at the Auction! President Dan

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say and do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
